CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Lottery officials say the next Mega Millions prize could surpass last year's record of $656 million.
The winner could get as much at $316 million dollars cash. However, the odds are 1 in 259 million that someone would win the money.
According to U.S. Lifesaving Association & National Safety Council, the following is more likely:
- 1 in 10 million become U.S. president
- 1 in 11.5 million become a victim of a shark attack
- 1 in 134,906 die getting struck by lighting
- 1 in 79,000 die from insect sting
Anyone playing the lottery should be careful not to lose their ticket. Officials say over $800 million dollars worth of lottery prices go unclaimed every year.
No one won the $425 million prize in Friday night's drawing.
And on Monday officials raised the amount to $586 million for Tuesday's drawing. Should a winner choose the cash option, they would walk away with $316.5 million.
Tickets for Tuesday's drawing are $1 each and can be purchased at any lottery retailer. The drawings take place at 10:58 p.m. ET/9:58 p.m. CT on Tuesdays and Fridays.
