Fewer men in the workplace. But why?
If women outnumber men where you work, you're not alone. Many men are disappearing from the workplace and it could have big consequences for the future.
In 1956, 98% of young men were working. By 2012, that had fallen to 88%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Among the reasons:
- More women than men get college degrees
- Blue collar jobs are harder to find
- A lot of men end-up in prison
Fewer men working means fewer Americans paying taxes. It also means that if they're not in stable family relationships, their kids will likely have a harder time improving their lot in life.
