FALMOUTH, KY (FOX19) - A former Pendleton County volleyball coach has been sentenced to one year in prison with no probation for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Cassie Elfers, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of custodial interference with a minor back in July.
Elfers was the part-time volleyball coach at Sharp Middle School in Pendleton County. She was charged in January with one count of sexual abuse. Two additional charges of of sexual abuse and a charge of distribution of obscene matter were added in March.
The case involved a student on the boys basketball team, which was coached by her ex-boyfriend.
Her attorney, Eric Deters, said there was no sexual intercourse and sexual contact once. "Fair resolution to this case based on facts and law," said Deters.
Elfers was sentenced to year in prison with no probation on Wednesday.
