OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - A former Oxford, Ohio school administrator is in custody for 20 felony counts related to child pornography.
The now former Director of the McGuffey Montessori School, 60-year-old Alfred Allen, was expected of misusing the school's debit/credit card back in May. An investigation into the allegation resulted in theft charges.
In the course of the theft investigation, police say they found evidence of child pornography. Allen was taken into custody on Thursday for 20 felony counts related to child pornography.
Allen was terminated by the school in May. The school stated that Allen was terminated due to his failure to perform the duties of Head of School. McGuffey Montessori School also states that the school was not aware of any criminal activity at the time.
Allen had been an employee at the school for over three years. The school states that a background check revealed no cause for concern when hiring Allen.
The school has also released a statement stating:
"The McGuffey Montessori School has been working with the Oxford Police Department to assist with the investigation of its former Head of School, Mr. Allen. As always, our school's first priority is its families, and we are working diligently to keep them informed. We are grateful that our students were not harmed in any way."
Prior to his employment at McGuffey School, school officials say Allen had over 35 years of experience working in independent day and boarding schools in the New England area. The McGuggey School says that Allen was well-known for his work with students who have learning differences, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other clinical needs.
Oxford Police say the investigation is ongoing.
