LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a woman in Lawrenceburg, attempting to steal a responding officer's gun and threatening to kill him.

Lawrenceburg Police were called to a domestic battery incident Sunday on Randy Avenue. Witnesses told Officer Morgan Hedrick, the first at the scene, that Joseph Schuler had beaten a woman.

Hedrick stated Schuler was "erratic," making threats and had blood on his hands when he arrived. Hedrick reportedly tried to detain Schuler but he resisted.

Schuler then struck the officer and threatened to kill him while attempting to take his gun. Additional officers arrived and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

Officer Hedrick was treated for injuries at the Dearborn County Hospital and released.

Schuler was taken to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center. He's been charged with attempted murder, two counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, intimidation on law enforcement, criminal confinement, strangulation and criminal mischief.
