Christmas tree makes its way to Fountain Square... again

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Macy's Christmas Tree arrived at Fountain Square this morning, one week after it was originally supposed to be put up.

The original tree, a 60 foot Norway spruce, was to be provided by George Korohsazi of Norwood. While being loaded in to the flatbed for delivery on November 9, a weak spot on the trunk caused the tree to snap.

The new tree, a 55-foot Norway Spruce donated by the Moinette family of Rittman, Ohio, began its procession to Cincinnati late Friday evening.

Upon its Saturday morning arrival, the tree was lifted into place on the southwest corner of the Square. Strands of decorative lights and a five-foot-tall, red Macy's star will be added over the course of the next few days.

The tree will continue to be set up until 2 p.m. today and is expected to be fully decorated by Wednesday.

The Christmas tree serves as the centerpiece for the 2013 Macy's Light up the Square event, which will take place on November 29.
