Accommodating the elderly during the holiday season

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Whether an older family member is coming to your home or you're visiting someone in an assisted-living facility, it's important to remember the elderly during the holiday season.

Megan Greshman from Maple Knoll Communities, a retirement community located in Cincinnati, has tips to politely accommodate the elderly to make everyone's holiday special.

  • If you're bringing holiday treats, be sure to consider any special dietary needs.
  • Make sure there is a cleared path from the car to the house, and that there is nothing like rugs they could trip on.
  • Try to keep activities on the first floor.
  • Keep music at a lower level so that everyone is able to hear conversation.

Some of these seem simple, but Megan says they are important tips to consider in avoiding incidents.
