Aurora Police Chief issued notice of discipline

AURORA, IN (FOX19) - Aurora Police Chief Bryan Fields was arrested Sunday for domestic battery.

Dearborn County officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at Fields' home around 4 a.m. Fields, 42, and his wife Holly, 42, were engaged in physical confrontation when police arrived at their home on Harrison Ave.

Holly Fields was transported to Dearborn County Hospital. The extent of her injuries are unknown but Indiana State Police say she could also be charged in the incident.

Bryan Fields was arrested on a preliminary charge of misdemeanor domestic battery.

On Wednesday, the Board of Works for Aurora held a brief meeting, issuing a notice of discipline to Fields.

The notice states that before Fields can be suspended without pay for more than five days, Fields must be given the opportunity for a hearing. Fields has five days to decide if he desires a hearing. If Fields does opt for a hearing, it will be held on January 9 at 8:30 a.m.

If he does not request a hearing, the Board of Works and Public Safety will meet to consider how to discipline him.

Fields has been ordered to surrender any police department equipment or property in his possession to Interim Chief of Police, Joshua Daugherty.

This is not the first time an Aurora Police officer has been in trouble with the law. In 2009, officer Dana Cotton was accused of stealing money from the city and in 2010,  Aurora's Assistant Chief Dennis Lewis was charged with child solicitation.
