Toledo water ban lifted and floods social media
The mayor of Toledo, Ohio, has lifted a water ban that left 400,000 Ohio and Michigan residents scrambling for water for drinking, cooking and bathing.
Mayor D. Michael Collins says Monday that the Lake Erie drinking water is safe and that the warning has been lifted.
The announcement comes after people in northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan were told to avoid drinking tap water because of toxins contaminating the lake, possibly from algae.
Thousands of people were scrambling for water for drinking, cooking and bathing over the weekend. Social media reaction reflected the state of emergency declared in the area by Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Photos of empty grocery store shelves show a sold out bottled water supply. Meanwhile, others were listing packages of bottled water on Craigslist.
Calif. man brings dog 2,300 miles to Cincinnati for surgery
The healing power of dogs is remarkable. That was the case for Scott Clare, of Bakersfield, Calif., whose wife passed away.
Clare adopted Buck-O, the now 14-month-old yellow labrador retriever, and says his four-legged friend taught him how to love again.
Buck-O was named after baseball player Buck O'Neil, a reflection of Clare's love for baseball. The pooch was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and had an irregular heart rhythms, which put him at risk for developing heart enlargement and even sudden death.
That's when Clare decided to take Buck-O across the country to Cincinnati and spend thousands of dollars to make sure he could have another chance at a happy and healthy life.
The pooch was taken to MedVet in Cincinnati in June, where he underwent a form of surgery only performed at the Red Bank vet in Fairfax.
The pair documented their journey along the way on the dog's Facebook page, I Heart Buck-O. They also posted updates on his website.
On July 22, Clare posted on Facebook that Buck-O was "doing great."
