MADISON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Butler County Sheriff says no charges have been filed in an incident where a dog attacked and killed a 59-year-old woman in Madison Township.

Cindy Whisman was with her 2-year-old grandson when the dog attacked her Monday outside an Eck Road home.

The dog, who belonged to Whisman's daughter, was officially handed over to Animal Friends Humane Society on Wednesday, Sheriff Richard Jones said in a statement. Authorities say the dog will likely be euthanized.

Family members referred to the dog as a 'pit bull,' but DNA samples have been sent to a lab to confirm the dog's breed. Officials say it is still unknown what prompted the dog to attack.

"This is a tragic case and a woman lost her life.  Fortunately this vicious dog will not be able to hurt anyone else," Sheriff Jones said.
