FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Three years ago to the day, and still no answers in a missing person's case that is now a homicide investigation.

Katelyn Markham was reported missing August 14, 2011, last seen at her Fairfield home.  Last year, her skeletal remains were found in Indiana.

Her fiancé, John Carter, made a 911 call that day that no one would have ever imagine would leave so many unanswered questions.

"My fiancee is missing.  I can't find here anywhere," Carter said in that call.

In 2011, Katelyn Markham was 22 years old.  The last time her father saw her was a week before that when he stopped at her home for dinner.  Now, three years later, nothing has changed.  There have been no arrests, and no named suspects in the case.  Last year, her death was ruled a homicide

"It's been a long, rough day.  It's been an emotional day," said Katelyn's father, Dave Markham.

His daughter's remains were found near a Cedar Grove, Indiana creek by people scouring for scrap metal in 2013.  Last year, her death was ruled a homicide, but authorities are unsure how she was killed.

Now, her family is left full of questions.

"I haven't heard one person say a bad word about her.  So, why?  It's beyond me," said Markham.

Police are working to piece the case together, but they've also got the same questions.  Lately, they haven't had much help answering those.

"There hasn't been any real, meaningful information or evidence that has come forth in quite some time," said Sgt. Noel Houze of the Indiana State Police.

The last bit of new information in the case was the discovery of what is believed to be more of Markham's remains found in the same area along that Indiana creek.  That happened in April 2014.

To help that process, Dave Markham has brought on a former Butler County Sheriff's Office investigator named Frank Smith of Ohio Polygraph and Associates.

According to the company's website, they offer polygraph tests, as well as private investigations.  Smith spent more than 30 years in law enforcement.  He tells FOX19 he's met and exchanged information with Fairfield Police, as well as the Indiana State Police.

Markham hopes a fresh set of eyes finally brings them to a conclusion.

"I think it's going to get solved.  But, I don't want it to be seven years, or eight years or another year.  I'd like it to be solved as quick as possible.  I'd like to put this to rest and move on," Markham told FOX19.

Indiana State Police are still working with Fairfield Police on the case.  There is still $45,000 in reward money being offered for information in the case.

If you know anything, Anyone with information about Markham's death is urged to call Indiana State Police at Indiana 812-689-5000, Fairfield Police at 513-867-6094, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-352-3040 or 513-352-3040.
