Crews battled a fire that roared through a vacant West 8th Street home early Thursday.

No one was hurt when flames broke out about 3:40 a.m., fire officials said.

The building was fully involved when firefighters arrived. At one point, flames were seen shooting through the roof.

The fire was knocked down by 5 a.m. Crews remain on scene investigating the cause.

A damage estimate was not available.

This is the second early morning Newport house fire in as many days.

On Wednesday, residents escaped a blaze on Monroe Street off Symmes Street.
