Caretaker pleads guilty to stealing dead veteran's credit cards

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - A woman caretaker accused of stealing from a dead veteran has pleaded guilty to one count of fraudulent credit card use, Campbell County Circuit Court confirmed.

Christy Mae Russell was accused of knowing Steven Reis was dead inside a Dayton, KY house and then using his debit cart for 9 months, charging around $31,500.

Reis's dead body was found inside 121 6th avenue was in September of last year.

Police were investigating a separate case when the suspect told officers about Reis's body.

Reis was a veteran and father of four.

Police say Russell stole some of his military benefits during the 9 months.

She also worked as his caretaker, according to officials
