The leaders of ResponsibleOhio have hired a security team after receiving threats. Cincinnati man Jimmy Gould is one of those who received threats by phone. According to ResponsibleOhio Executive Director Ian James, the suspects have used burner phones and made repeated threats.
James also told Fox19 NOW that the group was hit with a cyberattack and had $200,000 stolen from their bank account. James said the suspect was caught when he went back for another $300,000.
The threats didn't stop there.
James said the drug cartel targeted his husband by taking pictures of him outside of a building in Cleveland. "Law enforcement was pretty clear that this was a pretty heavy duty drug dealer," James said. "The fact that he was also an arms dealer gave them great pause and indicated that we should be concerned," he continued.
ResponsibleOhio has spent $160,000 on security, a campaign finance report shows.
