MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - Newly released police dashcam footage shows a driver hit a vehicle and a Sycamore Community Schools school bus on Montgomery Road Friday morning.

Police say the crash happened just before 9 a.m., near Bethesda North Hospital.

A pursuit ensued after a Montgomery police officer spotted the reckless driver, Smeriglio, at the corner of Pfeiffer and Montgomery roads, police said.  As the officer attempted to stop Smeriglio's vehicle, a passenger bailed out of the vehicle at Radabaugh and Montgomery roads.

The passenger was later apprehended as a witness and has not been charged at this time, police said.

Investigators say the officer followed Smeriglio north on Montgomery Road before he swerved into the southbound side and struck a vehicle head on. This female driver of the struck vehicle was attended to on scene and transported to Bethesda North Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After striking the first vehicle, Smeriglio's vehicle continued on and struck a Sycamore Community Schools school bus head on. Police say Smeriglio was taken into custody and treated and released from Bethesda North Hospital.

Smeriglio, 40, of Anderson Township, has been charged with one count of felony failure to comply with order of police. He is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center.

The school bus driver and 30 students on the bus were not injured, according to Sycamore Community Schools.

A second school bus was sent to the scene to transport the students to Montgomery Elementary where they were attended to by the school nurse.

Sycamore Community Schools are in contact with the parents of those students.

The school issued a statement saying:

"In Sycamore Community Schools, the safety, security and well-being of our students and staff are of utmost priority. We would like to thank both the Montgomery Police and Fire Departments for their quick response and assistance, as well as our driver for her tremendous actions in keeping students calm and safe at the scene."
