MILFORD, OH (FOX19) - A Milford elementary school is going out on a limb to try to win $10,000 dollars for its science department.

Pattison Elementary's fifth grade class created a video for the Scotties "Why Trees Rock!" contest. The winning video will be decided by the result of a national online voting period which ends Feb. 7.

"In my science classes I stress the importance of being good stewards of our earth and its resources. We have a school wide recycling program; walking field trips to the nature preserve behind our school; visits to the Cincinnati Nature Center; and have begun work on adding native plants on the school grounds to help Monarch butterflies with the habitat they need as part of their life cycle," said fifth grade teacher Missy Breuer.

60 Pattison Elementary students participated in the video that was pick as a national top 10 finalists.
