Robbery suspect shot by store clerk dies
CHEVIOT, OH (FOX 19) - A robbery suspect has died after being shot by a gas station clerk in Cheviot last week.
Anton Kirby, 18, attempted to rob the Harrison Food Mart, located in the 4000 block of Trevor Avenue, around 11 p.m. Friday., investigators said.
The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, latex surgical gloves and a mask. Police said he held the clerk at gunpoint.
"He walked in and I didn't see him till he had a gun on my chest and holding my arm down," said the clerk, who wished to remain anonymous. "He robbed me for about two minutes before I could get the upper hand."
The clerk, a licensed conceal carry permit holder, fired his weapon at the suspect.
The suspect fled and was taken into custody near the food mart.
Kirby was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died several days later, police announced Tuesday.
"I didn't wake up thinking I was going to kill a guy," said the clerk.
A prosecutor will decide whether the store clerk will be charged.
