Miami football player charged with felonious assault

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - A Miami University football player was arrested charged with felonious assault on Saturday after an incident at a bar.

According to Butler County records, Zach Smierciak, 22, was being removed from Brick Street Bar on High St. when he deliberately shoved a ladder and knocked the victim off who fell and hit his head on the ground.

Police said Smierciak ran from police.

The victim, who was unresponsive, was taken to McCullough Hyde Hospital and later flown to UC Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time.

Smierciak is scheduled to be in court on Nov. 10 at the Butler County Area courthouse in Oxford.
