OHIO COUNTY, IND (FOX19) - A state highway reopened following a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Milan High School student in Rising Sun, Indiana.

State Route 56 was closed for several hours in the 4400 block, about half a mile outside of Rising Sun, heading toward Patriot.

Police said around 7 a.m., a 1990 Chevrolet truck being driven by Dylan K. Levi, 16, of Rising Sun, was traveling southbound on State Route 56. For an unknown reason, Levi's vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound 2005 Dodge Neon being driven by 17-year-old Micayla D. Acra, of Milan.

The vehicles collided head on.

Acra, who was a Milan High School student, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ohio County Coroner's Office.

Levi, who is a student at Rising Sun High School, sustained minor injuries in the collision. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

Roadways were wet at the time of the collision and may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Levi submitted to a drug and alcohol test at a local hospital although drug and alcohol use is not suspected at this time.

The road reopened in both directions shortly after 11 a.m.
