Police: Man pretends to be valet at St. Elizabeth hospital, steals car

(FOX19) - A man was arrested for allegedly posing as a hospital valet driver and stealing a car to go buy heroin.

Justin D. Davis, 33, is accused of stealing a senior citizen's car from outside the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. Officials found Davis in Brown County and charged him with theft by unlawful taking of an automobile.

Pretending to be a valet driver, Davis asked the woman if she was ready to park her car and told her he'd return with a receipt, the victim told FOX19 NOW. She said Davis was wearing plain clothes and nothing specific to identify he worked for the hospital.

The incident happened on Feb. 28, but a criminal complaint was filed against Davis on March 7 by Edgewood police.

According to the report filed by the Brown County Sheriff's Office, Davis told sheriff deputies he had been at the hospital seeking help with a heroin addiction. Once he was discharged, he wanted to buy heroin but had no phone or transportation.

Sheriff deputies said Davis admitted to taking the vehicle to Cincinnati to buy drugs. He later drove to the Maysville Walmart where he and a friend tried to get rid of the car.

According to the report, the pair met another man at Walmart who said he would give Davis heroin if they drove him to Aberdeen. Davis told deputies he planned to bring the car back, but that didn't happen.

Maysville Police went to Aberdeen after receiving a tip on where Davis and the car may be located.

He was found and was caught after a short chase, according to the report.

The victim said she was never hurt, her car was not damaged and was recovered the same day.

Davis was apprehended by Brown County Sheriff Deputies and is currently in the Brown County Jail.
