CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A man was shot multiple times in an officer-involved shooting Friday in Colerain Township.
The shooting occurred at around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Thompson Road, close to Indian Ridge Road.
According to police, the suspect, 66-year-old Gary Sanzone, pointed a firearm at a Colerain Township police officer responding to a domestic dispute.
"The first officer arrived and was immediately met in the driveway by an armed suspect who pointed a handgun at her," said Colerain Police Chief Mark Denney.
It is not clear if the suspect fired at the officer.
"The officer took cover. fired her service weapon at the suspect who was still pointing his firearm at her," said Chief Denney.
Sanzone was taken to University Hospital and his condition is unknown.
Police said the officer is a 10-year veteran of the force. They did not release her name but said she was unharmed.
Investigators also said this is the first time she had to fire her gun.
With this being a holiday weekend the chief says he's glad his officer followed her training and will get to go home tonight.
"Yesterday being Thanksgiving we have a lot to be thankful for. this officer has a family she has a small daughter and to be able to have her go home today is a blessing for us," said Chief Denney.
Police said they have been to the home for domestic related cases in the past.
The investigation into the shooting will be handled by Cincinnati Police for transparency, according to Chief Denney.
