NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Xavier University students were put on alert early Saturday morning after an armed robbery ended in a shooting, Cincinnati police say.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. just a few blocks from campus in Norwood in the 1900 block of Hopkins Avenue.

Police say the victim was shot in the leg by a suspect who then fled.

Xavier sent out an alert to students urging them to seek shelter and stay where they were while police investigated.

Police gave the 'all clear" about an hour after the alert went out and say there was never any immediate threat to the campus.

The victim is expected to be O.K. but the suspect remains on the loose.

Police have not given any suspect information or released the name of the victim.
