A former nursing home will get new inhabitants much different than the former residents.

The former Lakeside Nursing Home is being bought by Northern Kentucky University and will be turned into student housing.

The school hopes that it can house 450 students in the facility that was shut down by the state of Kentucky.

The elderly residents who were residing in the Highland Heights building where living in what the state said were "substandard conditions".

NKU has seen tremendous growth in the past few years and students who applied to live on campus this year either stayed in hotels, were a third person in two person rooms or were turned down for housing.

University spokesman Chris Coles said that the school is saving between eight to ten million dollars by inhabiting a current building rather than build a new facility.

Two hundred students could be living in the building by the next school year.
