Crew getting turf ready at GABP

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Reds are one step closer to Opening Day as the grounds crew at Great American Ball Park removed grow blankets from the field's turf.

Head groundskeeper Doug Gallant says the blankets are in place to keep the ground about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the air temperature.

The grass is usually at its greenest when the blankets are removed.

Gallant says that even though it's been a cold winter, the field will be ready to go by Opening Day, which is April 6 against the Mets.
