OXFORD, Ohio (WXIX) — Apartment complex residents in Oxford said they received eviction notices after discussing issues at a recent city council meeting.

Tenants at Parkview Arms Apartments spoke at last week’s Oxford City Council meeting and claimed work orders at the apartments had been ignored, and management threatened them after Vice Mayor Chantel Raghu tried to step forward to help.

She said four tenants who spoke at the council meeting had eviction notices placed on their door.

“They all either spoke to the city council, their apartment was on TV, or they had talked to the media,” Raghu said.

Greg Landrum said he’s never missed a rent payment, but he’s accused of not paying on time, which is why management at the complex told him to leave by July 7.

“The property manager is only here on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Landrum said. “She does have a Dropbox, but still, even if you put it in the Dropbox, it’s considered late.”

FOX19 NOW attempted to contact the property manager and management of the complex, leaving messages and awaiting a response.

Raghu and Landrum said all four evictions were apartments in the same breezeway.

“We are talking to Legal Aid, the city attorney knows, and we are trying to figure out how to keep them in their space,” Raghu said. “Because it seems like there is some illegal activity happening.”

Retaliating against a tenant for filing a complaint is illegal in Ohio. The city council is considering ordinances to put pressure on the property managers.
