CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A Hamilton County judge set a $1 million bond for a 19-year-old accused of fatally shooting a man in an attempt to rob him in Hartwell, according to court documents.

Erik Evans was arrested Thursday night for the murder of 19-year-old Bairon Chaj, Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham confirmed in a press release.

On July 20, officers received a report that a person had been shot in the 8200 block of Vine Street at approximately 8:46 p.m., Lt. Cunningham wrote.

When they arrived at the scene, they found Chaj in a nearby parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Several months later, Evans was arrested by Cincinnati police with the help of the Fugitive Apprehension Squad.

According to a Hamilton County court complaint, Evans is accused of attempting to “commit aggravated robbery,” which led to the fatal shooting.

Jail records show that Evans is behind bars at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
