Covington man arrested on child sexual abuse charges

COVINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) - A 36-year-old Covington man is facing multiple felony charges related to the sexual abuse of children under 12 years old.

Joshua Boykin was arrested after his wife discovered disturbing images and videos on his cellphone and contacted police, according to Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders.

Covington police responded to Boykin’s home on Jan. 28 after receiving the call from his wife. Boykin was brought in for questioning about the images and videos and was subsequently arrested, Sanders said.

Multiple charges filed

Boykin is being held on a $250,000 bond and faces six felony charges, including promoting a sexual performance by a minor, sodomy, sexual abuse and charges related to child pornography, Sanders said.

Police have identified five victims, some as young as 4 years old.

“I know that there are additional children that need to be identified; how many, I am not sure yet,” Sanders said.

Investigation ongoing

Investigators are looking into where and when Boykin had access to children. Sanders said some of Boykin’s access to children came from babysitting, though he was unsure if that was his only access to children.

Police are asking anyone who believes their child may have been a victim to contact the Covington Police Department’s detective bureau. Detectives can collect photos of children and compare them to victims in the images and videos recovered from Boykin’s phone.

Sanders said the case could take weeks to present to the grand jury due to the large amount of evidence. He expects additional charges will be filed as investigators work to identify more children in the images and videos found on Boykin’s phone.

“Given the fact that Mr. Boykin is looking at the rest of his life in prison, we are going to make sure that we have every I dotted and T crossed and that we are going into court with our guns fully loaded,” Sanders said.
