Another arrest made in connection with deadly Hartwell shooting
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A second arrest has been made in connection with a shooting over the summer that left a 19-year-old dead.
On Dec. 31, the Cincinnati Police Department announced the arrest of 19-year-old Wakee Amin Swain-Barber “for the murder of Bairon Chaj.”
The deadly shooting took place on July 20 at around 8:56 p.m., according to police.
CPD District Four officers were called to the 8200 block of Vine Street, just outside the Hartwell Recreation Center, for a report of a person shot, a press release reads.
When officers arrived, they say they found Chaj suffering from gunshot wounds. He was sent to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where police say he died from his injuries.
The first arrest for this shooting came on Oct. 3, when Cincinnati police announced that they had arrested 19-year-old Erik Evans for Chaj’s murder.
According to a Hamilton County court complaint, Evans is accused of attempting to “commit aggravated robbery,” which led to the shooting.
Evans is facing multiple charges, including murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault, court records show. His bond is $1 million, and his next court date is Jan. 13, 2025.
CPD is still investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 513-352-3542.
